RSS as a Terrorist Organization: From the Shadows to Power
— Bringimalai Gopaal Samy
===========================
In Indian political history, the rise of the RSS–BJP is not a political renaissance. It is a religion–identity–based political project that has captured state power.
— The New York Times
This New York Times article describes the RSS as “an organized movement that emerged from the shadows.”
But in reality, the RSS has always been an anti-democratic organization operating in the shadows of Indian politics.
---
Essence of the Article
---
RSS is not a cultural organization; it is a planned terrorist political weapon.
The RSS claims to be a “non-political social service organization.” History, however, tells a different story.
The RSS did not participate in India’s freedom struggle. It has never accepted the secular nature of the Indian Constitution. It has consistently propagated an exclusionary nationalism that says India = a nation of Hindus. This is not democratic nationalism; it is majoritarian domination politics.
The Gujarat massacre of 2002, the Godhra train burning, mob attacks and killings in the name of cow protection, and retaliation against those with dissenting views—these are among the many crimes associated with the RSS.
---
RSS Training and Fascism
“ The nation is in danger. We have internal enemies. We must identify them.”
This mindset is the hallmark of fascism. Their politics aims to answer—through violence—the questions: Who are we? Who has the right to this country? Weakening institutions that do not endorse them, controlling the media, and branding public protest as “anti-Indian” are all part of this strategy.
Here, Modi is not a leader, but the face of a terrorist project—the political face of the RSS plan.
A nation should be built not on religion, but on equality, human rights, and self-respect. RSS–Hindutva stands as a direct challenge to democracy itself.
---
Fascism and Hindutva
Fascism and Hindutva are two forms of the same political language. Fascism is the European form of a frenzied mindset; Hindutva is its Indian form—both are essentially the same.
Fascism does not see violence as an accident; it treats violence as a political tool.
---
Ambedkar and Periyar
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar stated clearly:
> “Hinduism is a denial of equality.”
He warned that when a majority religion turns into politics, democracy cannot survive. In a society without equality, nationalism becomes a deception. Hindutva denies equality, sanctifies caste, and turns oppression into culture.
Periyar said this bluntly as well: God and religion are tools of political oppression. In Periyar’s view, Hindutva is a political machinery combining caste, religion, and male dominance.

RSS in the United States
In the United States, the RSS operates under the mask of HSS. Just as the RSS presents itself in India as a non-political cultural organization, in the U.S. the HSS (Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh) presents itself as a Hindu cultural and service organization.
But the ideological roots and political objectives of both are the same.
---
Same Shadow Politics, Different Names
In India:
RSS
BJP – political face
VHP, Bajrang Dal – street violence
ABVP – violence on educational campuses
Seva Bharati – service mask
Numerous other shadow organizations
In Indian RSS shakhas:
Physical training, discipline, and constant indoctrination that “the nation is in danger.”
In the United States:
HSS – culture + children
Hindu American Foundation (HAF) – lobbying politics
Temples / cultural camps – ideological training
Charity fronts – fund collection
Akshaya Patra – service organization, and other shadow fronts
In American HSS: yoga, games, Ramayana and Mahabharata narratives promoting a “Proud Hindu identity.”
All of these are merely different faces of the same RSS movement.
---
HSS in the United States is not a cultural organization. It is a foreign outpost of Hindutva religious extremism. Under the names of “service” and “disaster relief,” donations collected by HSS in the U.S. are routed to RSS-linked organizations in India.
The consequences include indirect support for violence like Gujarat 2002 and attacks against minorities (churches, mosques), and much more.
The HSS, which sows fascist seeds within American democracy, must be spoken about. If it is not challenged, the RSS narrative will dominate. Hindutva will gain global legitimacy. This effectively creates foreign approval for political violence in India.
Any form of religion-based identity politics, in any country, is anti-democratic. Hindutva is not merely India’s problem—it is a global fascist disease.
