In its affidavit to the Supreme Court, the Election Commission stated that a "independent study" had been conducted and that it was on this basis the Commission had decided to conduct the Special Intense Revision (SIR) across the entire country.
Furthermore, Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated, "We did not conduct this suddenly or in a rushed manner; we are conducting it now based on the same procedure we followed for the SIR in 2003." However...
RTI activist Anjali Bharadwaj filed two separate RTIs with the Election Commission asking for: (i)copies of the 2003 SIR order and (ii)on the basis of which study or analysis the Election Commission decided to conduct the Special Intense Revision (SIR) in 2025.
In its response to the first question on August 27, it irrelevantly replied, "For information, you may refer to the Commission's guidelines dated 24.06.2025, which will provide clarification. These are available on the Commission's website." (What was asked for was the 2003 order and guidelines).
In its response to the second question on July 28, it evasively replied, "Furthermore, the Commission does not have any information regarding this matter."
Therefore, having told the Supreme Court that the decision to conduct this Special Intense Revision across the entire nation was based on a study conducted nationwide, they now say they have no such report when asked for it. This shows just how far the standards of the Election Commission have fallen under BJP rule.
They will do absolutely anything to hold on to power, I repeat – they will do anything.
